The internet is terrible now.

As part of a broader cultural shift towards the 'enshittification' of everything we love, what once was a collection of disparate websites lovingly crafted by passionate individuals has slowly been ground down into a homogenized, data-collecting nightmare full of targeted ads and outrage bait owned by billionaires.

I unfortunately cannot prevent the internet from backsliding into the worst version of itself, but I can at least try to prevent myself from contributing to its demise.

That's where this site comes in.

I occasionally have thoughts on things! Things like video games, movies, and books! And rather than give that sweet, sweet ad revenue to the newest multi-billionare to purchase a social media company or news outlet this week, I've decided to put these thoughts on my own website, where they are less likely to feed into the content slop farm that the internet has become. With no ads, no monetization, no push to subscribe, this site will remain siloed off, a bastion of relative obscurity within which I will deposit whatever bullshit pops into my head at any given moment.

The writing here is not for anybody else; It's for me. It is an attempt to try and pull the individual threads of ideas floating around in my brain and knit them together into something resembling a cohesive sweater of an opinion.

Now this may come as a surprise, but while I am particularly fond of my opinions, I recognize that my viewpoint is not a unique one! Upper middle-class white dude raised in suburbia is about as milquetoast as you can get when it comes to life experiences. I won't claim to be some font of wisdom with which you can deepen your understanding of the world we live in. That's just not who I am. And there are other creators out there who do have those insights for you, whose lives are rich with experience and whose stories can affect their readers. I encourage you to seek those people out and follow them! If you need an example, here is an excellent piece from Riley MacLeod, a journalist at Aftermath whose writing I adore.

That's not me. At least, not yet. Maybe I'll get there someday, but for now, I am going to write about video games and what I think of them. And while I believe that still has as much artistic merit as anything else, my opinions on Dark Souls are likely not going to change your life. Unless you are very impressionable, in which case I implore you to stop reading, lest you end up like me someday. Trust me, you don't want this.

So why should you stick around? Great question! I leave that up to you. If you think my writing is lame or my opinions are stupid, then by all means, feel free to stop reading! You won't hurt my feelings, I promise. Like I said before, this is all for me anyways.

But if you do like it, and want to stick around and see what asinine take I come up with next, then I'd love to have you! I'll probably get an email list going at some point if you want to keep updated, but for now, I'm just glad you've stopped by.

Thanks y'all.
